MYKIN: A character design project from Communication Design class at the University of Oregon. The goal: one connected universe that fits in a cohesive brand.
logo
Background: My art class created a t-shirt pop-up at the end of the term featuring unique character designs made by each individual. To promote this pop-up, we created a brand: MYKIN to generate excitement.
Concept: One connected universe. Our brand is based in character design and storytelling, with the original concept being “Mycelia” or the interconnected fungal roots that intertwine all lifeforms. Through brainstorming, we created MYKIN out of Mycelia + Kindred, and generated four logos to represent our concept, one of which was mine.
CHARACTER DESIGNS:
For this project, everyone created a set of unique character designs to exist in this fictional “world.”
I chose a cohesive carnival/circus theme for my collection, and illustrated all of it.
ideation
Logo: I thought about mushrooms, connectivity, networks, organic life, topographic lines, and malleability, I created a hand drawn wordmark as one of the logo variations.
It also needed a secondary symbol to represent the concept. I used the outline of a mushroom combined with a swirl for a spacial universe and connectivity through the spiral.
